MerryGold began as the songwriting duo of Jillian Secor (guitar, vocals) and Alex Stephens (guitar, mandolin, vocals). The 5-piece lineup currently includes bass, banjo, and accordion as well. Based in the small northern California town of Placerville, themes of the Gold Country are abundant in their music. Their whiskey-soaked folk/bluegrass songs take listeners back to simpler times and portray a rawness that embodies the pioneer spirit of the Wild West. While traditional folk and bluegrass themes are apparent in their music, MerryGold incorporates a wide variety of influences to create their own sound.
Juliet Gobert
Juliet Gobert has become a treasured fixture in the Nevada County music scene and throughout the northern California festival circuit. She is a prolific songwriter and possesses a hauntingly beautiful singing voice. As an entertainer, Juliet performs as a solo artist, with her band, the Heifer Belles and with numerous musicians within her ever-growing musical circle. She affectionately describes her music as “back porch Americana” but she can “rock it up” when she is so inclined. Juliet’s songs range from humorous to heartbreaking and she performs them with heartfelt conviction and passion. She will surely set the tone for the evening and be wonderful part of another memorable musical evening at the Kentucky Mine.
